SHR technology is a newer, safer and gentle form of permanent hair reduction

SHR is the next generation of Lasers after IPL, using a more gentle heat with a high frequency there is little chance of burning like with lasers and IPL, the cooling system helps reduce the feel of the heat making it more comfortable and sweeping technology makes it far quicker treatment time than traditional methods. Unlike laser and IPL which are solely reliant on the pigmentation of the hair to get to the base of the follicle, with SHR only 50 per cent of the hair pigment is used for the laser energy to treat the hair, with the remaining 50 per cent being absorbed into the stem cells responsible for hair production through the skin, resulting in finer and lighter hairs and all skin types being able to be treated with success.

With our updated ICE technology, laser has never been so comfortable!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is SHR a more holistic approch to laser hair reduction?

SHR or Super Hair Removal is a technology uses gentler pulses of energy but at a higher frequency. This laser hair removal technology allows the skin to be heated gently, but with the rapid pulses, the energy is then accumulated by the skin. While 50% of the energy is targeted at the melanin (similar to IPL), the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production.

This is a very important point to note as SHR thereby targets both fine and coarse hairs. Ultimately, this leads to less discomfort and pain, yet an improved efficacy.

Because of the gradual accumulation of the energy into the skin, there is less trauma and irritation on the skin - making it ideal and suitable for everyone, regardless of skin tone and even for customers with sensitive skin. In fact, SHR is often considered to be one of the best laser hair reduction treatments. SHR hair removal is very ideal for Brazilian Hair Removal as it is more gentle on the skin.

How many SHR treatments are necessary for effective hair reduction?

Hair grows in 3 phases. IPL can only treat the hair within one of these phases called anagen. This is when the hair is growing and there are actively dividing cells in the hair follicle.

At any given time, there is only a certain percentage of hair in anagen. This is why all Lasers must be performed over a number of sessions with a certain time span between treatments to achieve the best result. However, we can only achieve approximately 70% to 90% hair reduction, no Laser system can achieve 100% hair removal though what is remaining is generally lighter and finer. The number of sessions required depends on your hair and skin colour and how your body responds to the treatments. The following is used as a guide only. Hair Colour: Dark Skin / Colour: l, ll and lll / Estimated Sessions: 6 - 8 sessions Hair Colour: Medium / Skin Colour: l, ll and lll / Estimated Sessions: 7 – 10 sessions Hair Colour: Light / Skin Colour: l, ll and lll / Estimated Sessions: 10-12 sessions Hair Colour: Dark / Skin Colour: lV / Estimated Sessions: 7-10 sessions Hair Colour: Medium / Skin Colour: lV / Estimated Sessions: 10 -12 sessions Hair Colour: Light/Grey/Red / Skin Colour: Any / Not effective 4 weeks between sessions

How long does the treatment take?

The advantage of SHR compared with IPL is its a lot quicker. Micro Areas - 15 minute booking time Small Areas - 15-30 minutes booking time Medium Areas - 30 minutesbooking time Large Areas - 45 minutes booking time

How long will the results last for?

As Plasma Lift is more than a simple tightening treatment (skin volume is actually reduced), the effects should last as long as they would with invasive surgery. Like all surgical and cosmetic procedures, the effects are not entirely permanent as it does not stop any further ageing, but the positive results should last years depending on the area treated. The positive effects of treatment will be noticeable immediately after the first treatment, but the final results will be seen after 8 weeks. For some, an additional treatment may be required after 8 weeks for maximum results. Additionally, there are lifestyle factors that can prevent the result from lasting as long as they can, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and prolonged sun exposure.

Is SHR permanent hair reduction suitable for everyone?

The advantage to SHR is you have have the treatment 5 days before or after sun exposure, which for other lasers it has to be far longer, so far more suitable to have during the summer months. While SHR is the most gentle laser there is at the moment, unfortunately not all treatments are for everyone. Please check our contraindications list to make sure you avoid disappointment. Pre & Aftercare Advice

Pre-Consulation Please do not shave the area you would like to have treated. This is so we can see the hair strength, clour and pattern of growth. Pre-Treatment Care In the lead up to your treatment ensure:

  • Please shave the area to be treated 1-2 days prior to your treatment (do not use tweezers or wax for 4 weeks prior to treatment - hair removal creams for sensitive skin are permitted).
  • No fake tan 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • No sun exposure 5 days prior to your treatment (use SPF 30+ daily).
  • Take anti-viral medication if you have had recent herpes close to the area.
  • No alcohol 48 hours before your treatment
Post-Treatment Care
  • Cold compresses (not ice) and recommended skin care products such as Aloe Vera may be useful if there is any swelling and erythema or general discomfort. Erythema may last for several hours. (very rare)
  • You may take over-the-counter pain or anti-inflammatory medication. Hydrocortisone (steroid) cream may decrease any itching or skin irritation. Antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin) may be used if skin is broken (very rare) to prevent infection.
  • Your skin will be fragile for 2 to 3 days. Use gentle cleansers, but do not rub the skin vigorously and avoid cleaning with very hot water during this time. Skin moisturisers may be used and make-up can be applied if the skin is not broken. Aloe Vera gel can help aid recovery
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning creams during the entire course of treatments. Use SPF 30 or greater on the treatment area at all times.
  • The treatment area may be left open and uncovered. Do not scrub the area. Do not use any products on the treated area without first consulting your Aesthetic Therapist.
  • Avoid soaking for 24 to 48 hours. No hot tubs, whirlpools or baths, but showers are allowed if tepid water is used.
  • Avoid excessive sweating for 24 to 48 hours. No saunas or vigorous working out.
  • Avoid irritants such as Retin-A, Retinol, Renova, glycolics, bleaching creams and exfoliants for one week.
  • Refrain from alcohol for 24 hours
  • Keep well hydrated
  • Avoid photosensitivity inducing foods (notably Celery & Leek)
  • Plucking residual hair is acceptable after hair removal treatment (but not before!)
  • Makeup can be applied after 2 hours
  • On occasion, clients experience blistering that causes crusting. This usually does not occur until the following day. If it does occur, the patient can apply warm compresses and a topical antiseptic ointment. This occurrence should be relayed to your Aesthetic Practitioner as future treatments will require that the settings be adjusted.
