Frequently Asked Questions
How does Radio Frequency work?
Radio frequency has emerged as a popular non-invasive treatment option for reducing the appearance of fine lines and loose skin.
Its principle relies on using radio frequency energy to heat the skin to a precise temperature for a precise amount of time in order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, thereby tightening the skin.
Radio frequency can be performed as a standalone treatment for skin tightening or combined with ultrasonic cavitation for complete body contouring.
Tissue retraction
The generated heat caused local contraction of the collagen fibres which immediately tighten the skin.
New collagen formation
By heating the dermis, new collagen production is stimulated. Improved circulation Radio frequency will also improve the blood and lymphatic flow. This helps with a better oxygen supply and greater toxin clearance to further reduce the effects of ageing.
How many treatments will I need?
We recommend a series of 6-12 treatments about one week apart, with the best effect being seen two months following the final treatment. Dependent on the number and how deep the lines and wrinkle are is dependent on the number of treatments required.
Many clients like to have monthly treatments as a preventative to aging and to keep their face looking it’s best.
Is Radio Frequency Safe?
RF skin tightening procedures cause few side effects and little to no downtime. All studies report no permanent side effects following treatment.
Pain
Early RF treatments caused a great deal of pain and required patients to be sedated with anesthesia. As RF technology and treatment became better understood, dermatologists discovered that reducing the radio frequency reduced pain while still providing effective results, making it painless with just a nice warming sensation.
Erythema
Patients may sometimes experience erythema, or reddening of the skin, after a procedure. Erythema typically fades within 24 hours after treatment.
Swelling
Some clients may experience a slight swelling which can last up to 24 hours after treatment.

What should I do before and after my treatment?
Pre Treatment Advice
You should try to avoid doing anything that will irritate your skin immediately before treatment. This includes sunbathing (natural or artificial). Practitioners are unlikely to treat someone who has sun burn for example, as they would be more likely to suffer pain from the addition of heat to the already damaged skin; however an established tan would be fine.
Some women find that their skin is more sensitive right before and during their menstrual cycle so if you are a woman, you might want to take this effect on pain threshold into consideration when scheduling your treatment appointment(s).
Post Treatment Advice
No special care is needed after treatment although your practitioner may suggest some of the following:
Light application of soothing/moisturising lotions, creams or gels to the treatment area;
cool, moisturising mists applied as you feel necessary;
cool water rinses or ice packs applied to the treatment area.
When will I see results and how long will it last?
You will notice a slight change in your skin immediately after the first treatment and will continue to improve after each subsequent treatment. Lax skin will be firmer and more toned, not to mention healthier and younger looking, and wrinkles will be considerably reduced. You should start to see improvement in your skin following the second treatment and additional improvement will gradually appear as the treatment course progresses.
As new healthier collagen is formed, tighter, more natural looking and firmer skin will be produced. The gradual improvement in your skin will continue even after the completion of your course.
The improvement in skin quality should be long lasting from 3 months to a year.
The results and how long they last are dependent on your skin health, diet and lifestyle. Top up treatments are usually needed and each person is different so it is difficult to be exact.
What can Radiofrequency (RF) treat?
Pure RF energy alone is primarily used to treat skin laxity and is best suited to clients with mild to moderate sagging of facial or body tissues, usually those in their mid thirties to fifties.
On the face it is commonly used to treat the forehead (lift brows and tightens forehead skin), under the eyes (thickens skin and tightens and lifts the upper cheek skin), cheeks (lifts slightly and diminishes enlarged pores), mid-face, jaw line (diminishes jowling and sagging along the jaw line), and the neck (tightens skin and diminishes wrinkling of the neck).
However, if there is a significant amount of redundant or sagging skin, often seen in older patients over sixty, this procedure may not show a significant enough improvement.
On the body its can help reduce and re-contour fatty areas in various parts of the body. It can work on virtually any part of the body. It can be used with ultrasonic cavitation and vaccum therapty for the treatment of cellulite and skin tightening on the arms, abdomen, buttocks and legs. Which helps support ultrasonic caviation treatments when skin tightening is required with fat reduction.
