PROFHILO

Promoting radiance and hydration as well as correcting crepey, wrinkled skin that’s becoming saggy and lax.

The first of its kind, Profhilo® is a revolutionary 'beneath the skin' hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment, made with the patented NAHYCO® technology. This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore firmness of the skin.

One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market, Profhilo not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels ageing and sagging tissue. The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck and can also be used for the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area where it would effectively treat skin laxity. The treatment is suitable for men and women as well as offering skin benefits for patients of all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo contains pure, high grade hyaluronic acid. In a 2ml syringe there is a total of 64mg of hyaluronic acid (which is 50% low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and 50% high molecular weight hyaluronic acid). It doesn't contain any synthetic additives, such as BDDE, and is the first product of its kind. Profhilo is not a dermal filler or biorevitaliser - Profhilo has opened up a new injectable category - bioremodeling. In Profhilo, L-HA is released slowly from the HA hybrid complexes and therefore does not trigger the first inflammatory cytokines making it very biocompatible. It also increases patient comfort during and after treatment and provides hydration to the skin especially in the epidermis - the Hydro effect.

H-HA in Profhilo provides a stable HA architecture in the dermis. This gives a volumetric effect - the Lift effect.

Another advantage of the stable co-operative hybrid complex when compared to H-HA and L-HA is the increase in the expression levels of type I and type III collagen in fibroblast and type IV and VII collagen in keratinocytes.

This results in improved skin quality and skin hydration both in the dermis and epidermis. There is also increased production of endogenous HA and elastin giving the skin a more youthful look.

How is it different from other fillers?

Dermal fillers and Profhilo are both made from moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid. However, dermal fillers are designed to stay in a single place, adding instant plumpness to sagging skin. Profhilo works differently. It integrates with the skin to trigger the patient’s own, natural, anti-ageing processes. In addition, Profhilo does not contain synthetic additives, such as BDDE, which minimises the risk of side effects.

Are there side effects?

Profhilo has proved itself with an excellent safety record since its launch in 2015. Product related reactions are rare. There are some injection related reactions which may occur after any injection; they typically resolve spontaneously within a few days. These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site.

Consultations are an important part of the treatment process in allowing you to understand the treatment and to establish if the benefits of the treatment are outweighed by any possible side effects. During a consultation, your characteristics, such as your area of concern and your medical status, will be assessed. Your therapist will discuss any possible side effects, questions you may have and any aftercare you should adhere to prior to you having treatment.

How long does Profhilo last?

Clients may feel an immediate improvement thanks to the hydrating effect, but it can take a few weeks before the real results of treatment start to be noticed – as the Profhilo encourages the body to produce its own anti-ageing collagen and elastin. After a month the skin feels smoother, softer, tighter and plumper. At this point a second treatment is needed to fully stimulate the collagen and elastin production for optimal results. The Profhilo continues to work in the skin for around a month after treatment, at which point it will have been fully metabolised by the body. By this time, it will have stimulated natural collagen and elastin production, meaning that the rejuvenating effects of treatment will continue even after Profhilo has been naturally broken down. After initial treatments, a Profhilo treatment every six months should be sufficient to maintain the benefits.

Where can be treated using Profhilo?

Profhilo improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin. Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also be used to rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.

What should I expect having my treatment?

This treatment is not painful to have done but some may find it a little stingy. If preferred, local anaesthetic cream can be applied to numb the areas where treatment will be carried out. The treatment consists of 10 very small injections and the downtime after this treatment is very minimal. Generally, the treatment is given over 2 sessions at 1 month apart which is necessary to optimise results. These can be planned at the time of booking. A review appointment is offered at 8 weeks after the last treatment. Results can last for about 6 months but this can vary from person to person, it is therefore recommended in order to maintain a great result, to have a top up sessions in 6 months. It may be possible to have just 1-2 treatments at this time. Immediately following treatment, you may experience symptoms of stinging, discomfort, slight swelling and erythema (redness) which should disappear after a few hours. You may experience some bruising; these should resolve soon.

Is Profhilo vegan?

Hyaluronic acid is vegan as it is derived from plant extracts or artificially synthesized. Having said this, Profhilo will have been tested on animals at some point, as this is a legal requirement.
